It's true. We've had thousands of positive reviews that prove Bar Keepers Friend is fantastic at restoring dirty shower glass.
Often when I can't see what people are doing, and they are having trouble, I give them these steps and this normally solves their problem.
In most cases, it comes down to not using enough powder.
1. Wet the RED sponge.
With warm water. If you are using a scrub daddy, use cold water.
2. Apply 3x the amount of powder than you have previously used to the sponge/pad.
As a measurement, I'm talking 3-5 tablespoons worth.
3. Press against the shower and in scrub in a 10 cm circle somewhere on the Bottom corner of your shower.
Time it on your phone for 30 seconds. Only do a 10cm circle. You should not need to press so hard it hurts your wrist. Just scrub in a small circles for a full 30 seconds. Then wipe/rinse that spot.
You should not normally need to apply that much powder and it shouldn't take that long to clean the glass.
However, it should show you what can be achieved and should bring that 10cm back to the raw material.
Please, follow this tutorial first. Then send us a photo of the 10cm circle once complete. If for some reason this did not work, then of course we will be more than happy to send a refund.
As a basic rule of thumb, use the Powdered products for tougher jobs, like the Shower Glass, Ovens, or Burnt cookware. Try the creams for stainless steel, rust, or porcelain, and use the Spray for maintenance or with surfaces you need to be a little careful with, like Chrome, Stainless Steel appliances or benchtops.
Spot test first to ensure you are happy before committing to the rest. And rinse thoroughly :)
IMPORTANT: Test on a small area first. BKF is not recommended for colored grout, porous, or matte finish tiles, as it can be hard to rinse and cause damage.
It's often used for shower tiles. However, ensure they're not a matte finish, as they can be tough to rinse and stain.
These products are not meant for porous or painted surfaces.
Of course, spot test in a small area before committing to the rest!
Plastic showers are a bit of a mixed bag! The only trouble with plastic/perspex shower doors is that in many cases, even the most gentle cloth can cause harmful scratches!
2 – Try the most gentle form, being the MORE Spray & Foam - http://bit.ly/MOREspray750 and light grade pad. It’s completely non-abrasive and would have nothing in it to cause damage, only question being if the surface build-up is too tough for the gentle option… as many are.
Spot test in a small area first and let dry to ensure you are happy before committing to the entire shower.
The choice to use the powdered Cleanser or the liquid Soft Cleanser is subjective and is, in large part, determined by:
- What is being cleaned; - Is it restorative cleaning (i.e. badly neglected & in need of deep-cleaning) or is it more of a routine cleaning situation; - Is the ease of rinsing a factor?
If it is routine lighter-duty cleaning, then the liquid Soft Cleanser is usually more than sufficient. If a more restorative, deep-clean is needed; then the BKF Cleanser (powder) is likely the better choice. Bottom line: They’re not intended to be identical products. The powder offers the versatility of varying its “strength,” by the amount of water added; stronger or weaker. The Soft Cleanser is in effect “pre-diluted” or “ready-to-use” for a variety of (but not all) tasks, especially the more routine cleaning tasks.
Bar Keepers Friend does not animal-test in the manufacture of our products.
The contents of BKF do not expire or degrade when stored in a dry environment. To offer our customers the best value possible, we chose not to add an expensive lid when it is not required for most users.
BKF is an acidic cleaner, whereas most other powdered cleansers are alkaline (bleach-based). Acidic cleansers are more effective against mineral deposits and rust stains and are also recommended by most stainless steel product manufacturers over bleach-based cleansers.
