Seeing Clearer - Cleaning Windows with Bar Keepers Friend

One of the things that's sure to give you a clearer view on life is clean windows!

You probably already know that Bar Keepers Friend is great on shower glass, but what you may not know, is that it is also great on general window glass.

Before Cleaning: TEST FIRST!
I know we go on and on about testing first here at CleanPost HQ, but it is for good reason. Although glass is pretty safe with BKF you'll still want to test first and follow instructions carefully to make sure. Also, when cleaning windows from the inside, we recommend placing an old towel or large rag below the window to prevent damage to the carpet or flooring.

Tinted or Treated windows - see further down

General Windows

What you'll need:

Instructions:
Step 1: Grab a non-scratch pad/sponge (we recommend a light-grade pad or Scrub Daddy). Rinse the pad in lukewarm water.

Step 2: Apply Soft Cleanser onto your pad or sponge and start cleaning in small circles.

Step 3: Rinse the window thoroughly with water.

Step 4: Wipe down with a dry cloth.

Aluminium and Steel Window Frames

Note: Not recommended on wood or porous window frames. Always test on a small area first.

What you'll need:

Instructions:
Step 1: Grab a non-scratch pad/sponge (we recommend a light-grade pad or soft cloth/microfibre), rinse the pad or cloth in water.

Step 2: Spray the MORE Spray & Foam directly onto the window frame. (Foam will likely work best, cap down*).

Step 3: With your wet cloth or pad, get cleaning!

Step 4: Rinse with a wet cloth. Then follow with a dry cloth or towel.

Windows with Heavy Limescale or Stains

What you'll need:

Note: For tough water stains, the instructions are similar to our recommendations for shower glass.

Instructions:
Step 1: Rinse your pad or Scrub Daddy in cooler water.

Step 2: Apply about 1TBS of powder to the pad/sponge.

Step 3: Scrub in a small circles (about 10cm) for about 30 seconds.

Step 4: Rinse with water and a damp cloth, then follow with a dry cloth.

Still Not Cutting It?

For tough jobs, we'd suggest making the powder into a paste and letting it sit on the surface for a minute before giving it a scrub then rinsing completely. Also, work over a small area at first other than the whole window at once.

Tinted or Treated Windows

Tinted glass is an interesting one as often the tinting can be applied on the inside, rather than the outside as part of the manufacturing process!

For tinted windows we recommend checking with the manufacturer to ensure their use doesn't void any existing warranty or damage the coating applied. This advice is similar for treated windows, it will likely clean well but may void a  warranty or remove an existing coating.

Otherwise, as any coating may be sensitive, always test on a small area first and rinse thoroughly. Typically we suggest using the More Spray and Foam or Soft Cleanser with a light grade blue pad or Scrub Daddy for windows or house glass as it’s the gentlest option.
