Welcome to Part 4 of 'Make the Most of Bar Keepers Friend'. This time around, we will be sharing the best ways to use Bar Keepers Friend Cookware Cleanser & Polish.
The Cookware Cleanser is specially formulated to remove burnt-on food and stains making it perfect for pots, pans and ovens.
As with all of our products, ALWAYS test on a small area first and wipe or rinse thoroughly after use. This is especially important when cleaning food preparation and serving surfaces. Always follow instructions on product cover.
Note: Not recommended on cast iron or non-stick surfaces.
Another note: The general powdered Cleanser also works well on the below surfaces just without the added food-based de-greaser and 50% more surfactants.
Pots/Pans
We've all done it - Whether it was a new recipe or stepping away for just a moment too long, we have all had to deal with a burnt mess at one point or another. What's the best way you clean this awful mess? Well Bar Keepers Friend Cookware Cleanser of course.
The Cookware Cleanser is suitable on stainless steel, aluminium and copper pots and pans.
As with any of our products we always recommend testing in a small area first and only continuing if test is successful, using under the same conditions as the test.
Instructions (Toughest clean):
Step 1: In a small bowl or similar, mix BKF Cookware Cleanser with a small amount of water to make a paste. Peanut butter consistency is perfect.
Step 2: Apply mixture onto the surface and leave on for up to a minute.
Step 3: Scrub! Scrub! Scrub! We recommend using with a Scrub Daddy in cooler water or a tough grade pad. Scrub using small circles.
Step 4: Rinse surface down thoroughly before use.
Instructions (Tough clean):
Step 1: Grab a non-scratch pad/sponge (we recommend a Scrub Daddy or a cleaning pad, start with a light grade) and rinse it in water.
Step 2: Apply powder directly to the item OR place product onto the damp pad or sponge. Use small circles, rather than the whole area at once. Leave on for no more than a minute.
Step 3: Rinse thoroughly, then grab a dry cloth to buff up the shine!
Ovens
Haven't cleaned your oven since 2005!?... Ok well, that might be a bit long... but you get what I mean. Cleaning ovens is definitely not considered one of the fun tasks around the home, but it doesn't have to be such a chore with the Cookware Cleanser.
The key thing in this situation is the rinsing. BKF requires thorough rinsing, so ensure it is done well and always test on a small area first.
Instructions (Oven door):
Step 1: Apply a generous amount of the powdered cleanser onto the inside of your glass oven door.
Step 2: Wet your non-scratch pad or sponge with water (tough grade or Scrub Daddy).
Step 3: Same as you would for the shower. Scrub! Start in a small circle area (10cm) for 30 seconds. As per instructions we recommend leaving on for no more than a minute.
Step 4: Rinse well with a damp cloth. Then dry with a clean cloth or towel.
Instructions (Inside oven):
As stated, the key thing in this situation is the rinsing, which can be hard inside an oven. BKF requires thorough rinsing, so ensure all product is removed after use and also wiped down thoroughly and always test on a small area first.
Note: Not recommended for self cleaning ovens, check with manufacturer before use.
Step 1: Grab a sponge, a light grade pad or Scrub Daddy will work well.
Step 2: Apply powder directly inside the oven OR place product onto the damp sponge or pad.
Step 3: Scrub using small circles, rather than the whole area at once.
Step 4: Wipe down with a damp cloth, then dry with a clean cloth or towel.
Oven Trays
Reminder: BKF is not recommended for cast iron or non-stick surfaces. And always test in a small area first.
Instructions:
Step 1: Grab a non-scratch pad/sponge (we recommend a Scrub Daddy or a cleaning pad/sponge (light or tough depending on stains and surface)) and rinse it in water.
Step 2: Apply powder directly to the tray OR place product onto the damp pad or sponge. Use small circles, rather than the whole area at once, to clean the surface.
Step 3: Rinse thoroughly, then grab a cloth to dry.
Other Glass, Stainless Steel, Ceramic and Pyrex Dishes
So I know last week's lasagne dish is still "soaking" in the sink, and that you'll get to one day, but. Seriously, don't be scared! BKF is here to help!
Bar Keepers Friend products are suitable for a wide range of surface types, nevertheless we ALWAYS recommend testing in a small area first and following instructions carefully.
Note: Not recommended for patterned or textured surfaces (eg. gold leaf pyrex)
Instructions:
Step 1: Grab a non-scratch pad/sponge (we recommend a Scrub Daddy or a light grade pad and rinse it in lukewarm water.
Step 2: Apply powder directly to the dish OR place product onto the damp pad or sponge.
Step 3: SCRUB AWAY!
Step 4: Rinse thoroughly, then wipe down using a dry cloth.
Oven Racks
Like many kitchen items, it doesn't take long for oven racks to get dirty. Cleaning oven racks may not be the most enjoyable task but with some BKF Cookware Cleanser on hand you'll be good to go.
Instructions:
Step 1: Remove oven rack and place in sink (or bath).
Step 2: Rinse oven rack with water.
Step 3: Mix the Cookware Cleanser and water in a container/bowl to make a paste. Peanut butter consistency is best.
Step 4: Apply paste to racks. Leave on for up to a minute*
Step 5: Scrub! A Scrub Daddy in cooler water or a tough grade pad works best.
Step 6: Rinse off with water. Use a tough or cloth to dry.
BBQ accessories / Grill tools
Whether you got a bit too excited on the weekend at the BBQ, and charred that trusty stainless steel spatula, or if the BBQ tools are just looking a little neglected, BKF is here to help.
Note: Not recommended on non-metal handles (wood, plastic etc.)
Instructions:
Step 1: Grab a sponge, a light grade pad or Scrub Daddy rinsed will work well.
Step 2: Apply powder directly onto the surface OR place product onto the damp pad or sponge.
Step 3: Get scrubbing!!
Step 4: Rinse well with a damp cloth. Then dry with a clean cloth or towel.
Shower Glass
Yes you read that right, shower glass.
Generally we recommend the general powdered Cleanser when cleaning shower glass. However, if the Cookware Cleanser is all you have on hand definitely give it a go as it has the same active ingredient as the Cleanser (Just different properties).
Instructions:
Step 1: Grab a non-scratch scrubbing pad/sponge (we recommend a tough grade pad or Scrub Daddy).
Step 2: Wet your pad or sponge with water (colder water for Scrub Daddy).
Step 3: Apply a good amount of powder to the wet sponge/pad.
Step 4: Scrub in a small circle (about 10cm) for about 30 seconds.
Step 5: Rinse, then follow with a dry cloth or towel.
Having Trouble??
For tough jobs, we'd suggest making the powder into a paste (as shown in pots/pans) and letting it sit on the surface for a minute before giving it a scrub then rinsing completely.* Also, work over a small area at first other than a large section all at once. Any questions flick us an email at support@cleanpost.co.nz
This is a very tough cleaner (consistency similar to the general Cleanser), for more general cleans you may want to step down to the Soft Cleanser or even the MORE Spray & Foam.
*Although we recommend leaving BKF on for no more than a minute. Some customers (as shown here) have had success leaving on much longer. Always proceed with caution when using BKF and when first using we recommend following instructions on the label and testing on a small area first.

Original Cleanser: Best for use on tough stains like shower glass, tiles, toilets, brass, copper tubs and more, to get rid of rust, hard water stains, mineral deposits and built up grease and grime. Can be used in a paste like formula for the toughest stains or dilute for lighter ones. Very versatile and great for almost any hard surface.
Soft Cleanser: In a pre-diluted, liquid form. Has the same active ingredients as the original cleanser though in an easier-to-use form. Use for stainless steel benches and sinks, solid chrome tapware, porcelain, acrylic, rust stains, tarnish or aluminium.
MORE Spray & Foam: The gentlest formula, great for chromes, benches, cleaning oily residues, vertical areas such as backsplashes. Great for faucets, tapware and sinks. Also tackles everyday grime, but with a massive kick and shine.
Cookware Cleanser & Polish: Best uses are for tough, food-based stains. Like ovens, including doors and tray (ensure it’s well rinsed), nasty lasagne or casserole dishes, cookware such as stainless steel or copper pots and pans (don't use on non-stick cookware) It has more degreaser than the original powder form, better suited to food-based stains.
Cooktop Cleaner: Specifically designed for cooktops of all kinds, Use on induction cooktops, stovetops, gas cooktops. Perfect for the glossy surface tops that need care taken with them. Use on stainless steel, ceramic and glass or for restoring mugs or glasses. In a cream form, so easier (and preferable to many) to use than the powder. Also, diluted in comparison so slightly safer on very delicate surfaces.
Tough Grade Cleaning Pad (Red or Green): Use this for the really tough surfaces, like shower glass, tiles and ovens
Light Grade Cleaning Pad (Blue or White): Use this for most hard surfaces, such as stainless steel, tapware, porcelain, and acrylic
